Greetings from India to the World!

A Very Belated New Year to All for you my WRAD Friends Around The World!

Have a very Happy 2016 even though January is almost over and we still have remaining eleven months to go!

We are doing fine here at WRAD, Inc.( www.wrad.org)  and we have been serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and their families and friends since we were incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 1985. How time flies as this is our 31st year of doing business with you all.

We still have room for improvement and serving the community better. In fact we are going to restructure our organization as our Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation are outdated . Of course we will remain as a non profit and improve our services in the years to come.

Every year we host fundraising events and activities including the Deaf Awareness Day at 6 Flags Magic Mountain here in Los Angeles and we will have it again on Saturday June 4th, 2016. Last year we broke the attendance record with over 1,200 people in attendance.  Our pizza nights are continued on a monthly basis at Shakey’s in Palmdale California on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

We love to share and support other organizations that provide activities and events to the Deaf Community including our close friendship with the Miss and Mr Deaf International Pageant group.( www.missmisterdeafinternational.org)  They are having the MMDI this year in Las Vegas in July and we are happy to support them ! We also support the events of the Mr. and Miss Deaf World Pageant as we were there last summer in Prague, Czech  for the first time to see them. Of course we are excited about the upcoming DeafNation World Expo in Las Vegas this July and expect many Deaf people coming. (July 6-8, 2016 at www.deafnation.com)

It is a wonderful pleasure and experience for me to be in India a couple of times last year to give me the opportunity to meet the Deaf community and to visit several schools with Deaf children and some Adult Education programs too. I also volunteered to give some lectures at their educational programs including being one of the keynote speakers at the recent India Deaf Expo in India. India has a long way to go to catch up with our educational standards but they are learning from us and making changes for the better.

I also enjoyed my visit to Hong Kong to meet some members of the Deaf community and attended the Deaf Futsal ( Indoor soccer) game in Thailand before visiting India for the India Deaf Expo  and Germany too see another Futsal International game.

The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) (www.wfd.org) had their Congress in Istanbul, Turkey last July and it was a good experience to see the group in action talking about different services around the world. Their next one will be in Paris in 2019.

Hope you will have a great year and contact us if you have suggestions or ideas to improve our services to the Deaf community. See you here or there as the world is always getting smaller with the help of better communication on social networks and Internet.
