About Deafestival 2007 at Woodley Park

Hats off to Councilmember Tony Cardenas, Bertha Velazquez (Councilman's Assistant), and many others especially volunteers for making Deafestival a roaring success yesterday! It was a beautiful day and we were glad to have our WRAD booth there since many people visited our booth to pick up Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness 6 Flags Magic Mountain flyers for Saturday October 13th as well as Bethoven's Nightmare postcards for the Live in Concert on Saturday October 6th, 2007. Also in attendance was Bob Hiltermann, the Hollywood deaf rock star who will perform in Beethoven's Nightmare. Bob came to visit our booth and talked to people about his forthcoming concert. We also had other deaf performers there like Deanne Bray, Troy Kotsur, CJ Jones, and VAE. Our photos of them will be posted at the WRAD website in the near future.

The Deafestival event was at Woodley Park in Van Nuys and it was really a lovely park with some trees perfect for shades from the hot sun.

It was nice of Councilman Tony Cardenas to send us a letter giving suppoort to WRAD to participate in Deafestival this year. Last year he gave us a beautiful plaque.

It was WRAD who introduced Bob Hiltermann to the Deafestival committee and we were glad he came on stage to give us a preview of his concert on October 6th at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Be sure to see his concert along with Steve Longo and Ed Chavey and others.

You can go to www.beethovensnightmare.com and get more details about the exciting live in concert. It was good to see some members of the deaf and hard of hearing community at Deafestival yesterday including some of my old and former students and staff members. It was worth our time to pass out the Deafestival flyers ahead of time to bring people to Woodley Park.

Dr. Larry Fleischer of CSUN also visited our booth with a guest from Belgium, Lieve Roodhooft.

We fully support Councilman Tony Cardenas for his work to have Deafestival and we at WRAD are grateful to help him by continuing to work with him on his committee next year to make Deafestival even better!
